Lorenzo da Ponte was an opera librettist. He was born on March 10, 1749 in Venice, Italy, and died on August 17, 1838 in New York City, United States of America. He wrote 28 opera libretti, but is best remembered for having written the librettos to Mozart's three great operas: Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte.
