often referred to as the State Department, is the Cabinet-level foreign ministry of the United States, established by Thomas Jefferson as first Secretary of State. The current Secretary is Marco Rubio, preceded by Antony Blinken. It is among the first three Departments established by Congress, along with the Department of War and the Department of the Treasury. It is headquartered in the Harry S Truman Building a few blocks from the White House in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
