Heroic man stands forth as Shalim-Shah.Rustem and Gew, Gudarz and all the rest,How come they short of lordship that's to seek?Dead worthies! but men live undoubtedlyGifted as Sindokht, sage Sulayman's match,Valiant like Kawah: ay, and while earth lastsSuch heroes shall abound there—all for theeWho profitest by all the present, past,And future operation of thy race.Why, then, o'erburdened with a debt of thanks,Look wistful for some hand from out the cloudsTo take it, when, all round, a multitudeWould ease thee in a trice?"
