Daniel Boone's wife with her daughters, went to live with her husband in his palisaded fort in 1776; but after Boone's capture his family returned to North Carolina. He died March 8, 1862. Boone, Henry Burnham, lawyer, author, born IVlay 8, 1873, in Fall River, Mass. He is the author of Eastover Courthouse; and The Career Triumphant. Boone, John Lee, soldier, lawyer, statesman, was born Aug. 5, 1843, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. During the civil war he served as a soldier in the twentieth regiment Ohio volunteer infantry. In 1867 he began the practice of law in Salem, Ore. ; and now makes a specialty of patent law in San Francisco, Cal. In 1884 he served as a member of the California state senate from San Francisco; and in 1886 was tendered the nomination for congress, but declined to accept that honor. He died about 1900 in San Francisco, Cal. Boone, Richard Gause, educator, college president, author, was born Sept. 9, 1849, in Spiceland, Ind. He graduated from Spiceland academy; and has attained success in educational work. For ten years he was superintendent of schools at Frankfort, Ind. ; was professor of pedagogy in the Indiana university for seven years; and for six years was president of the Michi-

ege at Ypsilanti, Mich. Since 1899 he has been superintendent of public schools of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the author of Education in the United States; History of Education in Indiana; and other works. Boone, Thomas, colonial governor. He was appointed governor of New Jersey in 1760; and was governor of South Carolina in 176263.

Boone, William F., lawyer, jurist, was born Maryland. He resided in Pennsylvania; and was appointed an associate justice of the United States court for the territory of New Mexico. Boone, William Jones, clergyman, bishop, was born July 1, 1811, in Walterborough, S. C. In 1844 he was elected missionary bishop to China, the first one appointed by the American protestant episcopal church. He bein

Boorman, James, merchant, philanthropist, was born in 1783 in England. He was one of the pioneers in the construction of the Hudson river railroad; and was for many years its president. He was also one of the founders of the Bank of commerce. The institution for the blind, the Protestant half-orphan asylum, the Southern aid society and the Union theological seminary were among the recipients of his bounty. He died Jan. 24, 18R6, in

Booth, Adonnas Everett, educator, college president, was born Oct. 36, 1868, in Gary, N. C. He was educated at the university of Nashville Peabody college for teachers. He has filled numerous educational positions from the district school to a college presidency.

Booth, Agnes, actress, was born Oct. 4, 1846, in Sydney, Australia. She has attained a national prominence as a noted actress; and has played in all the most popular cities in the United States. Booth, Alfred, business man, was born Feb. 14, 1828, in Glastonbury, England. He became a large dealer in oysters; and opened stores and packing in different parts of Chicago, 111. In 1880 his sons, Alfred E. and William V. Booth, came into partnership with their father under the title of A. Booth and sons, and the concern is now incorporated as the A. Booth packing company, with a capital of one million dollars. He died March 5, 1903, In Chicago, 111. Booth, Andrew Bradford, soldier, business oflicial, was born May 4, 1844, in Scott county, Ky. He has been postmaster, member of the police jury and a notary a, public; and is now identified with the business and public affairs of New Orleans, La. During the civil war he served in company K, third regiment Louisiana infantry confederate army; and has been commander of the united confederate veterans for the state of Louisiana.
