AN ACROSTIC.FOR AN ALBUM.
Joyfully I court the Muse,And wake for thee the votive lay;Nor thou, dear maid, the boon refuse,Entreating which my vows I pay.
eemed, and honored, and beloved,Let me, dear Jane, thy friendship claim;Eager to have these lines approved,And prizing naught like thy sweet name,—No, not a word the tongue can frame,—O, smile upon my simple lay!Receive my vows this festive day.
Prizing a world of bliss above,O, may thy years on earth be blest!Promoting all which Christians love,Eternal be thy happy rest!
