REFLECTIONS.
Upon the loftiest mountain peaksLies an eternal snow,Within the soul that loftiest seeks,There dwells a lonely woe.
The woe in heart, the snow on heightNo sun can melt away. The ghostly glacier in its mightGleams o'er no flowery way.
When on the ice the color playsAnd roseate splendor throws,A reflex 'tis, that sunset raysIn dying send the snows.
W here shines the head of martyr down,The soul its halo throws.O'er brow with bay or laurel crownThe great heart's passion glows!
