Paraguay national parks

Paraguay has 15 national parks. The national parks of Paraguay protect and preserve the wildlife and national resources of the country. Travelers who visit the parks can enjoy scenic beauty and recreational activities. They may also observe a great diversity of flora and fauna in their natural environment.

Parks are administered for the federal government by the Sistema Nacional de Áreas Protegidas del Paraguay (SINASIP), under the authority of the Secretary of the Environment (Secretariat del Ambiente, SEAM). Destructive activities such as hunting and logging are stricly prohibited in the parks.

Biosphere Reserves

Paraguay has two biosphere reserves, both of which are part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

  • 🌍 Chaco Biosphere Reserve. OSM directions target=_blank - huge biosphere reserve that protects a region of dry forest and humid wetlands, the reserve includes a large percentage of Paraguay's total national territory and includes several national parks and other protected areas
  • 🌍 Mbaracayú Forest Biosphere Reserve. OSM directions target=_blank - subtropical forests cover the hills and valleys of the Mbaracayú mountain range, part of a trinational wildlife corridor (together with Brazil and Argentina)
