κλώθω

See also: Κλωθώ

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Uncertain. Has been connected with Ancient Greek κάλαθος (kálathos) and Latin colus, although Beekes rejects these connections. Instead, Beekes explains the term as from Pre-Greek. The term has also been connected with Mycenaean Greek [script needed] (ko-ro-to), although this is also uncertain. The Mycenaean term may also be related to Ancient Greek χροιά (khroiá). Rix tentatively postulates that the term could constitute a *-dʰh₁eti present of an otherwise unattested Indo-European root *ḱleh₃dʰ-.
