Etymology

Originally a fenya cant term, possibly from German Fahrt (ride), from fahren (to drive), because the corresponding Russian verb везти (vezti) means both “to drive” and “to have luck”; alternatively, perhaps from фортуна (fortuna, fortune, luck).
