Possibly from Middle Persian 𐭡𐭠𐭰 (bʾc /bāz/, “hawk, falcon”); cognates with Persian باز (bâz), Classical Syriac ܒܙܐ (bāzā) and Hebrew בַּז (baz). If so, Doublet of ܒܵܙܝܼܩܵܐ (bāzīqā).
