Inherited from Aramaic כִּבְּרִיתָא (kiḇrīṯā), Akkadian 𒆠𒀀𒀭𒀀𒇉 (kibrītu, sulfur; firebrand), cognate to Arabic كِبْرِيت (kibrīt), and Hebrew גָּפְרִית (gofrít).
