Possibly of imitative origin; cf. Latin ulucus, ulula (“owl”), Ancient Greek ὀλολύζω (ololúzō, “to cry out”). Alternatively, from an unattested compound *उरुह्क (*uruhka, “broad-faced”), from उरु (uru, “wide”).
