From the telugu root నిల్చు (nilcu, “to stand”) +‎ -ఎన (-ena, tool marker) to make నిల్చెన evolved as నిచ్చెన. On the other hand, could be from Prakrit णिस्सेणि (ṇisseṇi), from Sanskrit निश्रेणी (niśreṇī), from the root निश्रि (niśri, “to lean on or against”).
