တေ
Burmese
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /tè/
- Romanization: MLCTS: te • ALA-LC: te • BGN/PCGN: te • Okell: tei
Etymology 1
STEDT derives the "beat" sense from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *(d/t)aːj (“to pound, crush”); cognate with Lahu tē (“to pound, crush, wear away”).
While MED groups certain derived terms relating to "doing" with the "beat" sense, STEDT separates them and derives the latter from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *daj (“to do, make”), whence Mizo ti (“to do”).
