Etymology

From 体言(たいげん) (taigen) + 止(と)め (tome, “連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 止(と)める (tomeru).”). The tome changes to dome as an instance of rendaku (連(れん)濁(だく)).
