Etymology 1

Particle

たる • (taru)

Attributive form (連体形) of たり (tari).
used after a noun, usually occupation, rank, position etc., indicating emphasis or responsibility.

教(きょう)育(いく)者(しゃ)たる私(わたし)は学(がく)生(せい)たちを正(ただ)しい道(みち)に導(みちび)くのだ。
Kyōikusha taru watashi wa gakusei tachi o tadashii michi ni michibiku no da.
As an educator, I will lead students to the right track.

  My father tried to be a soldier in a field filled with the terror of death, and after the war he tried to be a father.
