Usage notes

In Mainland China, 終身監禁 / 终身监禁 is a specific form of life sentence introduced by Amendment IX to the Criminal Law, effective since 1 November 2015, applicable to serious corruption offences. After being sentenced to death with reprieve and commuted to life imprisonment after 2 years, the criminal will serve a natural life sentence (Article 383, para. 4).
