Suffix
-கள் • (-kaḷ)
- suffix denoting plurality, mostly found in verbs and nouns.
Usage notes
- If a word ends in ம் (m), it will become ங் (ṅ) before this suffix.
- Similarly, if a word is one syllable and:[1]
- ends in a long vowel sound, an க் (k) is added before the suffix.
- has a short vowel sound and ends in:
- ல் (l), it will become ற் (ṟ) before this suffix. This mostly applies to single-syllable nouns and compounds involving them.
- ள் (ḷ), it will become ட் (ṭ) before this suffix.
