Abshoven

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as abshoven in 1253-1254. Compound of abt (abbot, father superior) and the dative plural form of hof (farm, farmstead). The name probably references the abbot of the Monastery of Saint-Vaast at Arras, which owned properties in nearby Munstergeleen.
