Etymology
From a- (“not”, from Ancient Greek ἀ- (a-)) + Ancient Greek χαίνω (khaínō, “to gape; to yawn”) + -odon (“-toothed”, from Ancient Greek ὀδών (odṓn)). Coined by American paleontologist, geologist, and biologist Edward Drinker Cope in 1873.
