Borrowed from English Babylon, from Old English Babilōn, Latin Babylōn, from Ancient Greek Βαβυλών (Babulṓn), from Akkadian 𒆍𒀭𒊏𒆠 (Bābilim, literally Gate of God); the name of the ancient Chaldean capital and Biblical city of the Apocalypse.
