Etymology

By surface analysis, dendro- (tree, from Ancient Greek δένδρον (déndron)) +‎ Ancient Greek ὀφῐ́δῐον (ophĭ́dĭon, little snake). Coined by Austrian zoologist Leopold Fitzinger in 1843.
