- Larvae follow generally a similar pattern as described above, but species of Brachynus (bombardier beetles) are external parasites (“parasitoids” is a better term as the larva kills its host) of whirligig beetle (Gyrinidae) pupae, and those of Lebias are external parasites of leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae) pupae.
