Etymology

From Middle High German *huvel, variant of hovel, hobel, hubel, from Old High German hovil, huobil, perhaps originally from Old Saxon, from Proto-Germanic *hubilaz, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kewb- (to bend; a bend, joint), see also Proto-Germanic *hupiz (hip), *hufą (elevated place, hill).[1]
