Etymology

From Proto-Iranian *Br̥jiyah. Equivalent to *br̥ziš (high) +‎ *-yah (adjectival suffix). Cognate with Old Persian 𐎲𐎼𐎮𐎡𐎹 (b-r-di-i-y /⁠Br̥diyaʰ⁠/), compare with Avestan 𐬠𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬌𐬀𐬭𐬱𐬙𐬌 (bərəziiaršti) and 𐬠𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬱𐬥𐬎 (bərəzišnu).[1]
