Etymology

From Proto-Iranian *ǰiHwákah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ǰiHwás. Equivalent to 𐎪𐎡𐎺 (ji-i-v /⁠jīvaʰ⁠/, alive, living) +‎ -𐎣 (-k /⁠-kaʰ⁠/, hypocoristic suffix). Cognate with Sanskrit जीवक (jīvaka).[1]
