Etymology

From Proto-Finno-Permic *jane (path) (whence also Proto-Samic *juonë and Erzya ян (jan, path)), probably borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yáHnam (whence Sanskrit यान (yāna), यामन् (yāman)).[1]
