Etymology
According to Aikio (2009), a conflation of two originally distinct Norse borrowings; Proto-Norse [script needed] (*hrīþō), from Proto-Germanic *hrīþō (“storm”) and Proto-Norse [Term?], from Proto-Germanic *skridą (whence Norwegian Nynorsk skred (“avalanche, landslide”)).[1]
