Etymology

Composed of *ǰajm (arrow) +‎ *ɢujkʷ (hole).

Starostin instead posits that the first part of the compound is a corrupted form of *dejVŋ (eyes) instead, but such an explanation would fail to reason the replacament seen in Yugh, given below.
