Etymology
Composed of *-χeg (“to call”) + *-ja (nominalizer suffix).
Compared to Proto-Athabaskan *uˑ-žeˑ (“name”)[2][3], Navajo ázhiʼ (“name”), Eyak wə-šeh (“name”) and Tlingit saa (“name”).[4] Also note that both Yeniseian and Na-Dené languages derive this gloss identically, with a root verb with the meaning "to call" appended by a general nominalizing suffix.
Noun
*χegja (plural *χeg-ja-n)
