From French Spénard

  • The lake in Alaska is named after early settler Joe Spenard, who settled on its shores. A road from what was Anchorage city limits to the lake is named Spenard Road, after the lake, which is now contained within Anchorage. The neighborhood surrounding the lake is named after the road.
