Etymology
Present in many variants among Albanian settlements in Italy. The variant xhëgonë from Sicily indicates a connection to gunë and zhgun. The g:l, g:ll transformations are due to the alteration of the velar l into a voiced velar fricative present in some Arbëresh dialects in Sicily and Molise, such as in molla:moɣa.[1]
