Cognate with Orma daakedhdha, Dirasha taak, Jiiddu yowaaté, Arbore zawahadh, Daasanach đanu, Burji daahadh, Alaba zaakk'a'u, Sidamo daah, Tsamai zoog (“float”).

The velar fricative in PEC *zaax- is attested in the Eastern Oromo dialect Qottu daakhi ("swim").[2]
