  1. (only with werden) in possession [with genitive ‘of someone’]
    Die Polizei konnte seiner nicht habhaft werden, er ist noch auf freiem Fuß.
    The police were not able to get hold of him; he is still on the loose.
    (literally, “become in possession of him”)
  2. (dated, regional) hearty, rich (of food)
  3. (obsolete) wealthy
