Likely borrowed from Portuguese cabaia, from Sinhalese කබාය (kabāya), singular form of කබා (kabā, “coats”), from Persian قب (“long garment, cloak”), from Arabic قَبَاء (qabāʔ, “garment with long sleeves”).[1]
