lài

  1. To move by walking; to travel on foot. Functions as a semantic core or base, specifying the manner of locomotion (walking). It is obligatorily compounded with a following directional verb or deictic suffix to specify the path, direction, or goal of the movement, thus creating a complete verb of motion.

Usage notes

This morpheme is not used in isolation. Its meaning is always refined by a subsequent element. It is an (Incomplete verb; requires a directional suffix such as kèi, shī, phù, ûi, and shàto form a complete lexical verb. The sentence is normally end with the directional suffix -kâ at the end.
