Etymology
A derivative of vjet (“last year”), variant of vit (“year”), from Proto-Albanian *weta, from Proto-Indo-European *wétos (“year”), contaminated with Latin vetus, veteris. Compare Lithuanian vẽtušas (“old”, archaic), Old Church Slavonic ветъхъ (vetŭxŭ, “old, ancient”). Attributed directly to Latin veterem by Orel.[1]
