бищи
Avar
Alternative forms
- биши́ (bišı̇́)
Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Avaro-Andian *bišši, from Proto-Northeast Caucasian *biččē. It may be related to Hurrian 𒉿𒋢 (pi-su, “to rejoice”) and Urartian [script needed] (piṣ-, “to rejoice”). Akin to Lak биччи (bič:i).
Over time, it was replaced by бечед (bečed) and thus fell out of use. However, the oblique form of бечед (bečed) ( бича- ) reveals a trace inherited from бищи (bišši).
