Usage notes

Also used in some proper nouns. The first and second editions of Xiandai Hanyu Guifan Cidian (现代汉语规范词典) view the character '' as the simplified form of the character ' (lǒng)' and as identical in meaning to the character '', referred to as the normative modern form. In the first edition, use of the character '' in the word '壟斷垄断 (lǒngduàn)' is proscribed. The third edition does not include the character '' and states that the character ' (lǒng)' is written as the character '' in modern normative usage.
