The spelling 峇厘, attested in Lim (1886) and Zhou (2006), appears to be a phonetic spelling.

Adele Fielde defines Teochew (bha7) as "bow of a vessel".

Carstairs Douglas and William Campbell identify the Hokkien  / () element as "door", while Fielde defines Teochew  / (li5) as "a habitation".
