Etymology
From gunda (“battle, fight”) + -zo (diminutive suffix), perhaps from Proto-West Germanic *-iti ~ *-ittjas (from Proto-Germanic *-itją)[1] + *-ō. Some forms such as Chunzo and Chonzo are possibly derived instead from kund (“known, familiar”), compare Old English Cuþa. Unrelated to English gonzo.
