Reconstruction:Proto-Tupi-Guarani/kʷarat͡ʃɨ
Proto-Tupi-Guarani
Etymology
Uncertain, with multiple theories:
- Schleicher proposes the compound *kʷar (“sun”) + *t͡ʃɨ (“mother”).[1]
- Nikulin proposes a derivation from Proto-Tupian *ŋkʷat with an unexplained *-at͡ʃɨ suffix.[2]
- Navarro hypothesizes a compound of kó (“this”) + 'ara (“day”) + sy (“origin”) (*ko + *ʔar + *t͡ʃɨ) for the Old Tupi descendant.[3]
