Etymology

From -mwa (to drink) +‎ -esya (causative suffix). Cognate with Tumbuka -mweska (to cause to drink) and Chichewa -mwetsa (to cause to drink). Also cognates with Swahili -nywesha (to cause to drink) which comes from the main Proto-Bantu stem.
