Etymology
From merèntèt (“streak”) + pengabisan (“last”). According to C. D. Grijns, so named after the fact that it comes up in a series of lengthy and difficult to pronounce Arabic month names with no popular shortforms (namely, those of the 5th and 6th months, sometimes also the 4th month).[1]

Usage notes
In places where Merèntèt Mula (literally “first streak”) is used for the fifth month ("Jumada I"), it comes second in the series. In a few other places, it comes third after Merèntèt Mula (“Rabi II, the fourth month”) and Merèntèt Tengah (“Jumada I, the fifth month”, literally “middle streak”).
